Text: The conference will focus on social media in historical research, with particular attention to theories, methods, sources and ethics. Es folgt eine Auflistung der der Tagung wichtugen Fragen bezhiehungsweise Thesen. What impact do social media have on historical scholarship? How and by whom can social media data be preserved? Which (interdisciplinary) methodological approaches are suitable for researching social media from a historical perspective? What skills are necessary for social media research? How do economic, technical and medial framework conditions of the plattforms influence historical representations and also research? Which media milleus and specifics can be identified? How can the impact and outreach of digital formats be evaluated?
  • Aufruf zur Anmeldung. Text: We welcome proposals for empirical case studies as well as theoretical or methodological contributions and problem outlines on various social media. Depending on the topic, we put special emphasis on the reflection of data access, methods, identification of problem areas as well as possible solutions. Interdisciplinary approaches on individual aspects such as archiving, scraping or ethics e.g. from (historical) communication research, media studies, ethnology, digital humanities or archival studies are explicitly encouraged.

Call for Papers extended!

Due to the vacation season we have extended the CfP for our conference "#History on #SocialMedia - Sources, Methods and Ethics".

Are you doing research on #SocialMedia and #History? Do you reflect on methodological approaches or do you have ideas for research pragmatics? Then we need you!

#SocialMediaHistory is hosting an international online conference on November 11 and 12. We want to have a look at the significance of social media for historical research and want to discuss methodological issues around the research of #SocialMediaHistory. The conference will take place via Zoom. 💻

If you're research adresses ➡️Social media as #sources for historical scholarship, ➡️methodological approaches to social media data or ➡️ethical considerations this is the right event for you!

We are looking forward to interdisciplinary contributions from various (related) disciplines - from #DigitalHumanities to historical #CommunicationStudies to #Ethnology.
