Apply now and join our Citizen Board (‘DabeiRat’)!

We are looking for people between the ages of 16 and 99 to join the Citizen Board of our project “SocialMediaHistory - History on Instagram and TikTok”. Do you would like to join us in writing history?

We are historians who would like you to support us in decyphering and understanding the nuances of how history is told in social media. How does history get recounted, who is telling the stories – and who is getting neglected? Which topics are discussed the most – and which ones should be discussed more? This project aims to unify many a perspective and create an equal dialogue in the process. We want to magnify the ‘social’ in social media and take a stand against hate speech on the internet.

This project is a citizen-science project, which means that ‘citizens’ and ‘scientists’ create in unision. Although the projects arterial language is German we would like to extend our invitation to people who are not yet able to perfectly read, write or communicate in German.

What can you expect?

As a member of the Citizen Board you will be accompanying the project over a time period of two and a half years until it's completion in February 2024. During this proccess you will be able to participate in free workshops adressing many different topics and catered specifically to our Board members. And of course you can get creative yourself as well. Your experience, your ideas and your opinion are important! With our support you can create awareness for issues you care about, all the while deciding yourself how much time you would like to invest for the project. There are no regulations on time expenditure. Everything goes but nothing has to!

What’s in it for you?

Your participation grants you access to free workshops, support for researching and creating contents for your own social-media project and many other bonuses, such as a certificate of participation for your qualifications, special tours through museums as well as access to different educational and university programms.

You still have questions? Then come to our Q&A to get to know us and our project online before commencement, on the 31st of August at 6 pm via Zoom: https://uni-hamburg.zoom.us/j/64707423078?pwd=RmhlbmZzTmcvb1c5QVFBTXhNUG9Sdz09

The Citizen Board is a central part of the team of SocialMediaHistory. Because of this, and since many experiences and worldviews are not yet present amongst our current team members, it is of great importance to us to create a diverse group of people, in order to hopefully project as many different views on the subject of history in social media as possible. In respect to this and in view of our responsibilty to research shaped by diversity, we would like to extend our invitation to apply as a member of our Citizen Board specifically to those of you who have experienced discrimination before. Even though the project as a whole views German as its operational language, we would like to invite people with an imperfect grasp of the German language as well.

Should you want to become a part of our CommunityCommitte, we will be needing a bit of information on you, in order to allow us to create a diverse group of interested people.

The following questions are of a more personal nature. To us, this is about connecting different realities, which is why for all following information we are interested in your self descriptions. We treat this information with utmost integrity and share them with no one, not even the other Citizen Board members.

All following information are voluntary and may remain unanswered.

If you have experienced discrimination, due to what?

Finally, we would like to know where you have heard of our project.
